Sirius DMB Love

I probably don’t need to remind you that I am a Dave Matthews Band fan. This little tidbit about me has been shared on multiple occasions - like here, here and here for example.

This weekend I demonstrated my unwavering love in a new way: I signed up for Sirius Satellite Radio. Why? Because as of 20 minutes ago they are playing DMB and various snippets of interviews with the band - all members including the late Leroi Moore - for the next 144 hours. I solicited friends to borrow their radio, FAIL. I contemplated signing up to stream it, FAIL. I turned to Craigslist, WIN! A few emails, negotiation, price reduction, a trip to Lake Merritt and $100 later, I have a SL10 (complete with home dock, car dock and headset). We tried to buy the guy’s potted plant on the way out, but then he got all stingy on us.

I even agreed to the insane Sirius terms and conditions: The monthly service is actually a year contract, billed quarterly, with a $75 cancellation fee. As subscribers cancel, I suppose this is what the new customers will come to grudgingly accept. But, if you want to add it all up - it’s still a good deal. Even if I only listen for the next 6 days, at $38 a day, it’s less than the cost of a concert ticket and a little bit more than the co-pay for an hour of therapy. Dave has always been my favorite addiction/therapy.

Presently, as I type this, Dave is sharing about how Stefan was 15 when he joined the band. And they are all vegetarians. And did you know they’ve been together for 18 years and have 9 studio albums? For those of you DMB fans who’ve been to a few live shows, you know that when Dave speaks, the fans listen. And that is exactly what I am doing now.
